What is a Seventy?
In the gospel of Luke, we are told that Jesus "appointed other seventy
also, and sent them two and two before his face, into every city and place where
he himself would come. And he said unto them, The harvest truly is great, but
the laborers few; pray ye therefore the Lord of the harvest, that he would send
forth laborers into his harvest…And into whatsoever city ye enter, and they
receive you, eat such things as are set before you; And heal the sick that are
therein, and say, The kingdom of God is come nigh unto you.
Luke 10:1-9
The seventy are ministers who are called of God to "preach the gospel, and to be
especial witnesses unto the Gentiles and in all the world." DC 104:11e
More specifically, we are called to be traveling ministers and preachers of the
gospel, to persuade men to obey the truth; DC 120:3b
Our commission is described as "preaching with the warning voice, baptizing,
organizing and setting in order, then pushing their ministry into other fields
until the world is warned." DC 122:8c
Who are we?
We are a group of Restoration Seventy who have been called and ordained
by the power of Jesus Christ to be special witnesses who travel into all the
world and call all people to repent and be baptized for the remission of sins,
and to enter the kingdom of old. Like the seventy that Jesus appointed in the
Bible, we have been sent to share the good news of his coming in these latter
days.
